Ten on Ten

I can’t believe it’s already April 10th?!!?  I swear, I just posted my March ten on ten and yet here we are again!  You can read more about the ten on ten project over at a Bit of Sunshine.

The past few weeks have been crazy around here!  Which means my crafting time has been limited!  I have a few projects started and I hope to get finish them up this weekend!

So onto my Ten on Ten for April 10th

Remember having these name plates on your desk in elementary school?

Today was K.I.S.S. day at Lilly’s school – (Kids Invite Someone Special).  Lilly invited both my Mom and I to her KISS day.  The kids put on a musical chorus performance first and then we went to visit them in their class room.

Lilly’s teacher planned a cute little craft for us to do with kids.  It was a flower made out of both of our hands … I told Lilly will give it to Nana since it has both of our hands making up the flower.  My mom didn’t participate in the craft because my Mom teaches 3rd grade at Lilly’s school so my Mom had to get back to her own class.  Pretty cool… Nana teaches at your school?  Well, at least for now she thinks it’s cool 😉

Pointing to my Mom’s name on the parachute while we wait in line for brunch – they had pastries, bagels , fruit and donuts for the parents.  Yum!

The Preppy Strawberry www.thepreppystrawberry.com

When we went down to the classroom she handed me this card she drew of my Mom, Me and her – It was a Thank you card for coming to K.I.S.S Day.

Okay, so let me clarify this picture (Lilly is the left, ME – Middle and my Mom is on the right)  First, Lilly has blonde hair but wants brown hair?!  Me – I have dark brown hair but it’s definitely not black!  Funny, when I was a teenager I wanted blonde hair and my daughter has the best color because one day she could be a blonde or brunette!

After, I left K.I.S.S. day I had to head off to work …. This ugly cloud followed me and then decided to open  up and down pour!  This is pretty much how the skies looked all afternoon!  Pretty scary looking?

The Preppy Strawberry www.thepreppystrawberry.com

Yup, that was dinner!  I had a busy schedule tonight – I have to get every thing ready for the next couple of days.  I’m heading off to Columbus in the morning to go to an event tomorrow night … A girls night out event!  I’m looking forward to the event and getting back to doing the things I used to do 😉  But with that means – tomorrow night Dad has to do dance, spelling test practice, pack a lunch , and then get her on the bus Friday morning!

The Preppy Strawberry www.thepreppystrawberry.com

Of course ….. she had to go play in the play area but that all worked out while I made my to do list!  😉

The Preppy Strawberry www.thepreppystrawberry.com

Barnes and Noble – we made a stop to one of my favorite places to hang out.  I was looking for a couple of books so while the sales girl was helping me out she went into the kids section.  I came around the corner to find her sitting down reading a book she picked out!  I’m so happy she loves to read!

The Preppy Strawberry www.thepreppystrawberry.com

When we were walking into Barnes and Noble it started to down pour again!!  So Lilly took off her little cardigan and put it on her head so her hair wouldn’t get wet!  LOL  seriously, this girl kills me!

Insta Friday REV

Why do these weeks keep flying by so fast!?!

I’m linking up again with Life Rearranged for InstaFriday.   I’m The Preppy Strawberry on instagram if you want to follow me 😉

So here’s my week in instagram pictures …

This week we were on Spring Break – well my daughter was on Spring Break and well it went by way too fast!   Next year, I need to plan better and plan a trip to Florida for spring break to visit Grandpa and Ywww.thingamajigetc.blogspot.com {The Preppy Strawberry}a-Ya!  We had pretty crappy weather this break and dealing with snowflakes for the first part of Spring Break is not what Spring Break is about?! Spring break is Sun, Beach, Flip Flops, trips to the pool,  beach shopping, and hanging out at the beach.  Well, that’s my idea of Spring Break and was how I spent most of my Spring Breaks as a teenager.  So here’s to starting new traditions next year 😉

The Bunny came…… Happy Easter!!

www.thingamajigetc.blogspot.com {The Preppy Strawberry}

oooh… I love Cadbury eggs!  Once a year …..

Nothing better than a Welcome Home from work chalk drawing!  ♥

Bowling night with cousins….. She came back with a Pink ball…… I wouldn’t expect anything less!

www.thingamajigetc.blogspot.com {The Preppy Strawberry}

The arcade was a bigger hit than 2 games of bowling!  All the cousin’s won enough tickets for LARGE SILLY SUN GLASSES!

Friday night – Family night!  We made homemade pizza from scratch and we each baked our own pizza!

And the above shot is my keeping it real shot …. It’s what happens to a working Mom with lots on her plate every day.  A picture of my kitchen sink Friday night when I walked in the door from working … Ughh!  So before I can even get Pizza night started this needed cleaned up.

Happy Friday!

Spring Crafts with Kids

Spring Crafts for Kids {The Preppy Strawberry} ww.thingamajigetc.blogspot.com/

This week we are on Spring Break – well my daughter is on Spring Break.  My week is business as usual but in the midst of work I’m trying to include some fun projects.  The other  night we painted some bird houses.  I think these will be perfect for my Spring time mantles.

We decorated the bird houses 3 different ways –  I used fabric and modge podge on one my houses.  I had some left over scraps I cut out for my no sew quilt project

Then I found a new use for my washi tape – I washi taped one of my houses.  Lilly painted two of the houses and of course after she painted both she was mad I broke out the washi tape so I will be back tomorrow to buy one more bird house for her to washi tape.

This is a simple project for all ages –

Bird houses I found for  $1.00 at Joann’s

paint – we used the Joann brand acrylic paint ( I think they are .59 cents)

the rest of the supplies we used I already had on hand …

Get creative!  You can even embellish your houses once they dry.

Happy Crafting!

Easter Egg Coloring

Good Friday, is the day we always set aside to color Easter eggs and this year we tried a new way.  We used the standard package dye kits one one dozen and then we used Sharpie Markers on the other dozen.

Påskris–Swedish Easter Tree

Påskris–Swedish Easter Tree {The Preppy Strawberry)

When I was younger when we celebrated the holiday’s around our family’s heritage.  Especially Christmas Eve we celebrated with Swedish Traditions.  My Dad’s father was born in Sweden and came over to the United States so my Grandmother kept that tradition alive for many years.  I still as an adult make sure we have some of the traditional Swedish smorgasbord items.  Personally, I was never a fan of the fish especially the pickled herring.  It might be good but I’ve never really liked fish, so I avoid that completely! I remember the Swedish traditions that were centered around Christmas holiday but never heard about the Påskris–Swedish Easter Tree or do I remember my grandma having one?

Påskris–Swedish Easter Tree {The Preppy Strawberry)

I first saw the Påskris–Swedish Easter Tree image on Pinterest.  At first, I just thought it was a pretty centerpiece so I clicked on the image and to my surprise I learned it was a Påskris–Swedish Easter Tree!  So with a  little more research about the tree I decided that we would start this tradition and make our first Påskris.  We still have some work and additions to make for next year but here’s our tree to start!

Påskris–Swedish Easter Tree {The Preppy Strawberry)

Some items we are missing from the tree are Swedish Easter witches and roosters.  So this next year I will be keeping my eyes out for a few of them and or making some for next year.

Eggs we decorated – well Lilly painted and decorated all of the eggs for the tree.

Påskris–Swedish Easter Tree {The Preppy Strawberry)

So what is the Påskris? It’s a tree made from birch twigs and it is a tradition that is part of Sweden’s’ Easter celebrations.   The twigs were used for whipping each other, and was the symbol for suffering Jesus did on Easter Friday.  The whippings are said to date by to the 1600’s. I read that the whippings no longer take place but they bring the twigs in and decorate the branches with colorful eggs, feathers and Swedish Easter witches.

I think we need to get back to celebrating our family heritage’s so I plan on making sure we do this to include my Swedish and Welsh family traditions along with my husbands German heritage.  I feel like today, we get away from who we really where are families came from and how we all ended up in the United States of America.

As they say in Sweden ….. Glad Påsk

Which means…

Happy Easter!

Woo Hoo! It’s Friday!!!

We are officially on Spring Break this week and I’m so excited!!!  We are not going any where but I’m just excited that we get a break of the morning rush!  I hate trying to every day get two of us ready and out the door by 7:45 am!  So this week we get a little break in that schedule.

The Preppy Strawberry - Insta Friday

This has been a crazy week …. Monday started off with a snow day, Yes, March 25th a snow day!  So that just threw my short week for a loop!  To the point,  that I think that I was completely off on my days and or dates because I had on my calendar the wrong day for an important doctors appointment and showed up at the right time wrong day – Uggh!!

… well that just prompted a lunch date with Miss Lilly no sense heading right back to school so we stopped at Panera.

The Preppy Strawberry - Insta Friday

This week we started making a Påskris- Swedish Easter Tree.   We just finished painting and decorating eggs for the tree so I hope to finish the tree tomorrow.  Here’s a peek at our first Påskris

Recycled Egg Carton Wreath

Recycled Egg Carton Wreath {The Preppy Strawberry}

Looking for a fun recycled craft to make with your kids or class? This also makes a great gift for Mother’s day …. Also a great idea for the kids to make for Grandma!

We made these recycled egg carton wreath’s with Lilly’s Daisy Troop. They turned out super cute! The girls recycled egg cartons and then we cut them up and made flowers out of them!

First, we cut the egg cartons apart and shaped them into flowers. After, we created the flower shape we painted all the flowers a solid color. Next, once they flowers dried we added some detail to the flowers. After everything dried we hot glued the flowers to the circle form. We used cardboard for the wreath form and painted it green.

We did this project as part of “using our resources wisely” Daisy chapter but this would be another great project for Earth Day. The girls ended up giving the wreath to there Mom’s as a Mother’s Day gift.

I can remember going into Hills Dept. store and looking at all of those plastic costumes that came in the big bag!
