Strawberry Shortcake Birthday Cake

So this is my latest cake I made for my 3 year old daughters birthday in June. She turned 3 on June 6th. Yes, she is an 06-06-06 baby! Crazy! When she gets the devilish attitude I blame it on her birthday! So this past spring she fell in love with the Strawberry Shortcake cartoon. Remember Strawberry Shortcake from the 80’s? The purple pie man? The dolls that hair smelled like the fruit they were named after? How cool was that? Well, they are back! So my daughter chose Strawberry Shortcake for her theme – by the way I was like Yippee! This is going to be so much fun! So once the theme was picked it was time for Mom to brainstorm a cake idea? I’m creative but there was no way I could do Strawberry’s face?! So what was the next best thing? .. Her hat! Below is a picture of my cake and the steps I took to make it. Feel free to comment or ask questions!

To Make Cake:

I took one box cake mix (you can use any flavor) and put part of the cake mix in one round cake pan & the remainder in one of my small glass bowls. Once the cake cools you can ice the cake. I recommend icing the round cake first and then put the dome on top and ice it. This way when you cut the cake you have icing in the middle! Yummy!

For the ribbon I just went to my local craft store and bought the green/white pinstriped ribbon and made a bow. Use floral wire – this helps because i just stuck the ribbon right into the cake! It worked perfect! Then I just free handed strawberry on the cake. Easiest way to do this is make a heart and put some green zig zags on the top! For the band in the middle of the hat I just used a fruit roll up.

ICING: I just used your basic icing recipe- nothing special!

Little Einsteins Rocket Birthday Cake

{ROCKET – Little Einsteins}

This was the cake I made for my daughter’s 2nd Birthday

So as I stated early I love making birthday cakes and have started a tradition with my daughter. Well she doesn’t know this yet but so far I’ve made all (2) of her Birthday cakes myself! I would like to continue doing this for her as long as she will let me of course!
She turned two in June this year and loves the Little Einsteins! So for months I was brainstorming in my head how was I going to make a cake from the Little Einsteins so this is what I came up with!
I made ROCKET! If any of you have toddlers and they watch Little Einsteins you know how much they love ROCKET!

IPOD Birthday Cake

Here is one of my birthday cake creations! I love birthdays and I enjoy making a big deal out of my family and friends birthdays. This cake I made for my little sister who will be 14 next month who was visiting me from Florida last week. As you can see I made her an IPOD cake and in PINK of course – what other color would a 14 year old girl want!! This was so easy to make I thought I would share the instructions!

Cake – I just used a store bought cake mix and then added some almond flavoring to the cake;)

ICING – I just used a basic butter cream icing recipe.
Cake- I baked my cake in a 13X9 pan and after it cooled I flipped it over and iced it!! The 13X9 pan was the perfect size!!

** this was the first cake that I made in awhile that I wasn’t cutting off some cake and dealing with all the extra crumbs!!
To make the circle I used one of my small glass bowls and with a knife I traced around the bowl. You don’t want to cut the cake out just trace around. I then iced this section with white. For the screen part I did the same thing only I just eye balled this section and after I had it traced I iced the screen part.
After these two sections were done I iced the whole cake in PINK and then trimmed the cake with squiggly icing trim – just for fun!! My sister loves my icing so the more the merrier!!
To make the headphones I bought the peel off twizzlers and took (3) pieces two I used to make the connection to the ear pieces and then the 3rd piece I tied to the two and made the connection into the side of the cake. I then used (2) marshmallows for my ear pieces!
And that was it! My IPOD cake!!
Oh and then we wrote her name on the screen!
Any questions about this or if you make your own IPOD cake – share your photos with me!!

Happy Baking!!
